Lecture: The failure of both multiculturalism and assimilation, and the new path of omniculturalism

Title: Lecture: The failure of both multiculturalism and assimilation, and the new path of omniculturalism
Location: The Old Theatre, LSE
Description: Speakers: Professor Ali Moghaddam

Globalization confronts us with the enormous challenge of managing diversity at local, national, regional, and international levels. The two traditional policies for managing cultural diversity, multiculturalism and assimilation, are based on incorrect psychological assumptions, and have resulted in collective identity threats for both minority and majority groups, destructive intergroup conflicts, as well as the marginalization of minorities. Omniculturalism represents a constructive third path, based on universals identified by psychological science. It is argued that assessed as both science and policy, omniculturalism represents a significant improvement over multiculturalism and assimilation, and should be given priority in education, the family, and all other domains concerned with the socialization of the young.
