Looking forward to 2009!

Happy New Year!

We are now just over half way through the project so the start of the new year is a good time for looking both forward and back.

So far we have completed fieldwork with one of our case studies and are close to completion with two others. ‘Completion’ does not of course mean that we have cut off all contact; indeed, our aim is to keep the dialogue open throughout the writing-up period. Moreover, there are still some follow up interviews to be done as it has not always proved possible to fit these into the observation period (for example with trustees of organisations or institutional collaborators).

From now on we’re going to have to start thinking seriously about how we translate our data into findings. Dissemination will for the most part be a two-stage process, where presentations will be used to present interim findings and gain feedback in preparation for drafting more substantial texts. The first such opportunity will be next week at the departmental research club meeting, and one of my first tasks is to sit down and draft this. We will also be looking to give conference presentations on both our methodology and our findings and perhaps also to use this website to help our results reach a wider audience. One of my resolutions is to update this space more often with more than just links and events: more reviews, more ‘talking points’, more project updates… I look forward to reading your comments.
